Reynaldo "Rey" Maldonado, aged 79, of San Jose, CA, passed away on Jan. 26, 2018. Born Oct. 1, 1938 in Del Rio, TX, to Frank "Poncho" and Cipriana Maldonado. A long-time resident of San Jose and graduate of Abraham Lincoln High School. A true "Lion" Rey made the "Big Bone" game his Thanksgiving morning tradition.

A hard worker, Rey credited his dad for his strong work ethic. He lived his life to the fullest. Rey was adventurous and enjoyed being outdoors. He was athletic and a fan of many sports. Rey shared his passion for camping and traveling with his family and friends. His outgoing personality and good nature made everyone a friend. His love for dancing singing, good music and socializing made him the life of the party. Rey was a leader, a man of integrity and a man of his word. He worked at Gardner Elementary (Academy) for over 30 years. He poured his heart and soul into doing his best for the students, the faculty, and the Gardner Community. He taught many about life, love, respect and unity. Rey's giving, caring and accepting nature impacted the lives of many, resulting in the school field being named after him.

Rey is survived by his wife, Adeline Maldonado, Rosa, the mother of his children, Raylene, Martha, Rey and preceded in death by daughter Jeanette. He was the proud grandfather of 13. Ray was also preceded in death by his parents and his siblings Esperanza, Frank, Richard, Robert and Gilbert. He is survived by his siblings Gloria, Sylvia, Cecilia and Joe. Loving uncle of many nieces and nephews. Visitation is at 6 p.m., Fri., Feb. 2, 2018 at Lima Family Erickson Memorial Chapel, 710 Willow St., San Jose, with a prayer service to follow at 7 p.m.
